Description

The Saratoga Anticlinal Nose was defined by J. Weller (1940) on the basis of scattered outcrop data. He described and mapped it as a broad and ill-defined northward-plunging anticline about 3 miles (5 km) long. New surface mapping in the area by Jacobson and Weibel (1993) confirms the existence of an anticline that has more than 100 feet of maximum relief. Dips on the west flank are gentle; on the east flank, dips as steep as 39° have been measured in Section 24, T11S, R1W (R. Jacobson, ISGS, personal communication 1989). Because the structure may have closure, the name is changed from Saratoga Anticlinal Nose to Saratoga Anticline.
