Description
Rolley called this feature an anticlinal nose, but it does not differ significantly from other structures she called domes. An irregular, enclosed area of about 2 square miles (5 km2) was mapped on the Herrin Coal Member (Pennsylvanian). Similar structure is shown on the Beech Creek ("Barlow") Limestone (Mississippian). Structural relief on both horizons is at least 25 feet (8 m). An oil field developed on the Rural Hill Dome is part of the Dale Consolidated Field, which has produced nearly 105 million barrels of oil since 1940.
